Profile
Gabriele Piermartini, born in Forlì on 31 August 1966, practises law with offices in Forlì, Corso della Repubblica 19. He has been enrolled in the Register of Lawyers of the Forlì-Cesena Bar Council since 9 November 2015 (no. 1415).
His professional biography unfolds in two clearly distinct — and precisely for this reason complementary — phases. From 1986 to 2015 he served in the Carabinieri, retiring with the rank of Maresciallo Capo after holding positions of operational, administrative and technical responsibility in several locations across Italy. Since 2015 he has practised law, having earned three degrees, a year of training at the College of Law of the University of Oklahoma and the University of San Diego, and a PhD in criminal procedure at the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna.
The thread linking the two paths is criminal procedure, and in particular the axis of investigations: a long investigative experience on the judicial-police side, completed by academic research devoted entirely to the reversal of perspective — the statute of defensive investigations, conducted by counsel to protect the client.
Thirty years in the Carabinieri (1986-2015)
The institutional experience spanned several operational and administrative contexts:
- 1986: national service in the Air Force (Taranto, Viterbo, Poggio Renatico).
- 1987-1988: Carabiniere at the stations of Benevento and Sarmeola di Rubano (Padua).
- 1988-1990: attendance at the Non-Commissioned Officers Cadet School (Velletri) and the NCO School (Florence).
- 1990-1994: Provincial Command of Trento — Deputy Commander of the Mattarello Station, with interim commands at Vigolo Vattaro, Civezzano and Monte Bondone; crew commander of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of Trento; assigned to the telephone-interception team at the Court of Trento.
- 1994-1998: Deputy Commander of the Carabinieri Station of Cotignola (Ravenna).
- 1998-2008: Commander of the Command Unit of the 13th Carabinieri Helicopter Unit of Forlì, with cross-cutting technical duties (responsibility for NATO-classified encrypted material, health-and-safety officer, management of the unit's assets).
- 2008-2015: Deputy Commander of the Carabinieri Station of Forlì (Corso Mazzini).
His service was rated "Excellent" in the performance assessments of 2000 and 2001 — the highest grade on the military rating scale. He was awarded the Carabinieri Long Service Cross.
Legal practice
Enrolment at the Bar dates to 9 November 2015, with the Forlì-Cesena Bar Council (no. 1415). In the years before enrolment he completed his legal traineeship, begun at the office of Attorney Alex Landon of the San Diego Bar (California) and continued from 2009 to 2011 at the Martines Law Firm and in 2012 at the Nannini Law Firm in Forlì, up to qualification to practise as a lawyer at the first attempt.
The firm operates within Emilia-Romagna and neighbouring regions and is organised as a sole practice: advice, strategy and the drafting of documents are handled directly by the principal. Executory tasks — in particular hearing substitutions at more distant courts — may be entrusted to trusted colleagues, under the direction and responsibility of the principal. For the client — and especially the business client — this means a single technical point of contact, continuity of analysis and full confidentiality.
The principal is:
- Enrolled in the register of defence counsel for legal aid in criminal matters (since 12.02.2018) and in civil matters (since 16.03.2020), with the Forlì-Cesena Bar Council.
- A former civil and commercial mediator with the Conciliation Body of the Forlì-Cesena Bar from 16.12.2011 to 16.12.2021.
- Between 2017 and 2021 he provided free defence activity at the Citizen's Desk of the Forlì-Cesena Bar and at the Family Centre of the Municipality of Forlì.
